Warning: Safaricom auto-subscribes you to costly premium services

One trick of Safaricom to steal your money is to automatically subscribe every new user to various premium services that nibble away at your airtime slowly enough for you not to notice. Of course they do not tell you and never warn you that you are paying for services you do not know or use.

I noticed it only because I had loaded KSh150 onto the phone, then not used it at all for over a month. The airtime was gone with only a fraction of one shilling left.

If you do not want that, you have to unsubscribe from all premium services. You can do that by calling/dialling the number *100# , then finding your way through the menu to the premium services and after a few more steps to the place where you can unsubscribe from all of them.

There may also be a subscription to some game service. Make sure you unsubscribe from that as well.
